A boquiniste is a dealer in secondhand books, sometimes further refined as secondhand books of an obscure nature.  Many mentions of this word online specifically attach the term to the street booksellers who ply their trade along the River Seine in Paris.  Origins of these booksellers said to trace back to 16th Century peddlers called libraries forains who wandered the banks of the Seine.  First known mention of the term boquiniste is found in the dictionary of the Acadamie Francaise in 1789.
